About
I am Vasantha Kumar, a documentary photographer and visual storyteller based in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. For the past four years, I have been capturing the soul of India — one frame at a time — across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
My work is rooted in culture, festivals, and the everyday lives of people. I believe every street, every face, and every moment carries an untold story worth documenting. Black and white photography holds a special place in my practice — the depth and silence it brings to a story is something I keep coming back to.
I hold an M.Sc in Visual Communication from The American College, Madurai (2026), and I am currently working as a Student Reporter at Ananda Vikatan, Chennai — an experience that has deeply shaped my journalistic eye. I have previously interned with Studio A by Amar Ramesh, Chennai, where I developed my creative and visual thinking, and with REC.709 Films Production, Nagercoil, where I gained hands-on production experience.
My long-term projects include Mask — a two-year documentary photography project — and Kannagi Chilambu, a photo-writing project currently in progress. As a solo traveler, I have documented stories across Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Punjab, Delhi, and Jammu & Kashmir.
I work across photography and post-production, with proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, color grading, and AI tools.
I don't just take photographs — I tell stories that stay.
